At Tweedsmuir in the Scottish Borders, the hut is available to all Club members and friends. There is hostel type accommodation for 12 in 3 dorms and good cooking and heating facilities. It is an excellent base for exploring the surrounding countryside. At least one adult CTC member must be present.
Border Bothies Association (BBA) has taken over the operation, management and development of the hut, while the Lothians & Borders Member Group maintains ownership. The BBA operates as a charity operating 5 (now 6) bothies. There is no charge for use of the bothies but donations are accepted. The BBA is anxious not to disenfranchise existing hut users and will seek to encourage use of their bothies by cyclists. This will make an extensive range of facilities in the Borders available to CTC members. The BBA plans to refurbish the hut by re-proofing the roof, installing a guttering system and addressing a number of the issues arising from the risk assessment reports. Most importantly, the hut will continue to be known as the Albert Watson Memorial Hut and will be referred to as such in all relevant literature. All bookings for the hut should be made with Alan McQuiston, 35 Rowan Crescent, Ayr, KA7 3ND (tel 01292 260190), who will act as hut convenor.

The Lothians & Borders Member Group's Rights Representative is involved in protecting and promoting cycling interests on a local basis. He attends planning meetings to ensure that cyclists' needs are taken into account in new roads and developments and liaises and works with Spokes - the Lothian cycle campaign group. This, of course is in addition to the national campaigning the CTC does to influence Government policy on roads and transport.
The Lothians & Borders Member Group has its own web site. This is it! Send any suggestions you may have to Mike.
