The Scottish Government this week published a Strategy for Preventing Overweight and Obesity. It contains some very sound commitments to encourage more active travel, including planning and design for walking and cycling, and to deliver the draft Cycle Action Plan for Scotland with its proposed target for 10% of all journeys to be made by bicycle by 2020. British Waterways are facing funding cuts which threaten the future of the towpaths, and those parts of the National Cycle Network that run along them. Twice this year British Waterways’ property has come under threat from Treasury to be sold off. If this were to happen the network of towpaths would rapidly fall back into disrepair.

John was a tireless and dedicated worker for cycling, and every summer he completed a 100 mile ride as a personal challenge.The route was a particular favourite, starting from Castle Douglas, and includes Keir, Drumlanrig and the Dalveen Pass to Abington.
CTC’s annual cycling festival, will feature - a trade show and exhibition; CTC rally; organised rides ranging from 20 to 100 miles; arena events such as grass track racing; a cycle stunt show; a cyclists’ service at York Minster; cycle club displays; a grand parade through the city; children’s entertainment; music; extensive catering and licensed bar, and more.
To make the MoonWalk happen we need cyclists to come and give their time and talents as part of our volunteer crew. Cyclists are essential to the success of the event, making sure the walkers are safely heading in the right direction, and supporting our marshals as through the night..
